Dearest friends and family!

It was another hot and humid day!!! I had to use my small unbrella for the sun shade. It has been so hot!!! We have been too lucky in Feb but March is going to kill us. Only reason I like to come to the office is we have air conditioner! But we have no heater and they told me it will get really cold. One sister brings blanket from home.

We have a new guy in our office and he lives in the same building and he has the cutest shetsu (?) dog. He is so friendly and so soft (I mean dog! not him). I told him to bring his dog to the office but I don't think it will happen.

Evan gets to go to see the Succor game on Thursday night. No I am not going. I don't think I was even invited. He is so excited. He is going with Patty and her husband. They just returned from Bolivia and got us Lama´s sweaters. Zoe, they are so soft and beautiful!!!!! You would love it.

Well that is all for today.

I really am missing you all and love you so much.

We have 15 months to go. Hope I can handle it!!!

Dearest family and friends,

It was the hottest day today. It went up to over 90!
Evan agreed that it was too hot.

At the office , one brotheren brought corn cake. It did look like the one at Eltoridao. He was standing right by me so I had to taste it. Nooooooo! It is nothing like Eltorido's. Of course Evan liked it and I hated it. He kept offering more but I could not. It was like sweet hardened Corn meal(Can't remember the name, ). The one made by corn meal and cooked with srapped corn hask. But it is sweet and noooooo, I did not like it.
We saw two more ugliest warm again today. I was really sick. I am so scared to walk that area becuse I know they came down from the trees and we have to walk under it.

It was another busy day. I just came to the conculution that the main jobs for Senior missionaries are needed at the office. There are so much to do. I worked on the list of mental Hospitals. So that Bishop and Stake presidens can get those information for their members. There is only one person in charge for the entire Brazil. So he really needs our help. There are so many and I have to figure out all the informations. Good thing Evan is sitting right next to me. But I realized that I am not good for that kind of office work. My head was going crazy!!!

Patty and her husband called tonight and they wanted to go to the temple with Evan. I still had headach so I could not. I am going on Thursday night with the Scudden.

I am mentally exhausted!!!

It is going to be another hot day tomorrow!!! I hope it rains!!!!

I miss and love you!!!!

Dearest family and friends,

Today one brotheren came to our room and he told me a funny story (in English). Appearently Brasilians think Pourtugues are not so smart.
One of his Portugues friend left his dog with his friends and he went to some other country. And while he was gone, his dog died. Then he came back home right away. Then few months later, his mother died but he did not come home. I told Evan I am going home if Punkin gets sick.

I talked to Joey last night and everytime I see Punkin, I call her name hoping she will pay attention to me. But she could careless about me. I hope she does not forget about me. But at the same time, I am glad that she is soooo happy with Joey and Amy.

It was such a hot day!!! Good thing our office has air conditioner. But they are all old people in our room  and kept saying it is too cold, including Evan.

It was a busy day and my head was spinning doing what we did. We had to organize the mental hospital with the right information. We had to do it 100 today and we have to do 50 more tomorrow.
Being a senior missionary's main job is office job to help our leaders.

Today Evan wanted me to fix salmon and eat it for lunch at home. I made is XXX dry salmon and he loved it.

I can hear "Gooooooooooool!" right now. As soon as I leave the front room, he takes over the TV. His excuse is "I have to learn Portunues!"
I even know what "Goooooooool" is without listning!

I want to wash my hair right now but we are using washin machine so I cannot use shower nor hair dryer. We really have to be selective of what we should use. We can't even turn the stove becuse it use electricity  start the light

Well, I better go now to see if the washing machine is done or not.

I really miss you guys and love you!!!!

Dearest family and friends,

It is Sunday and our summer time started. So we got one hour extra hour to sleep in late.

It has been so hot and Evan even came back from his walk.Luckily I can see the dark clouds so I hope it will rain since we are not going out anywhere.

Did you get to see that ugly warm on the ground? I had seen them several times and they sure scare me.
They are big and really ugly. No Evan does not like it either. Hey! We agreed!!!

We are going to have salmon this evening. Salmon is very popular and they are really good. Sometimes they do cook over done but once again, Evan loves it that way. When I cook salmon, he cooks more to his like. I really don't know why they cook everything extra over done!!

tomorrow is Monday so I guess we are going to the shopping mall across the temple for lunch. I really like it there. There is a Japanese store in a mall but they don't sell anything Japanese! and they sell Temple bags, temple recomend case and other LDS goods. I have no idea why.

Amy, thank you for the picture of Punkin!!! She is as beautiful as ever. I really miss her. I cannot get Icam. Can you adjust it for me? I can see Joey's feet and outside. That is all.

Evan is watching Succor game again. I wish I like to watch it but I do not. They look like they are all acting!!! They fell and act like they borke their bone and few seconds after, the were running!

Today we had a man looks just like Bishop Ross but I guess it was not him!!! My Portugues is not good enogh to ask who he was!! I miss everybody in our ward!!!

I really miss you all and love you.
I just want to be with you!!!

With a name like "Krosty" they've just gotta be irresistable.

Nice, new, clean subway cars.

Pumpkin flavored Kit Kats in Japantown

Big caterpillars, and yes they freak mom out.

Nice, clean new subway corridors

The best popsickles yet--toasted coconut!

Jiló--a slightly bitter veggie. and no,  mom doesn't like it but I do.

Really big delicious raisins.  The black ones have edible seeds, and no, mom doesn't like them but I do.

This is funny--this is the container that has the large black raisins WITH SEEDS, but the label advertises, "without seeds".

Tim, you'd love these as much as I do.

Great Dog Show!! -
Neatest part is -  they were all
 rescued dogs from the pound!!!!!
Dearest family and friends,

It is Saturday and I slept until 9;30!!! I loved it.

It was a hot day but 10 minutes rain did cool down a little.
I still have headach so Evan went to the drug store and got the medicine for me. I hope it works.

Elder and Sister Scudden  brought us a half of water melon and we loved it!!!

We did the wash and Evan put the dirty towels in the sink so, water did not drain. It over fladded a little. Good thing I heard some dripping noice!
We were lucky.

Nothing is easy around here.

That is all for today. Not much going on.

I miss and love you!!

Dearest family and friends,

How are you guys?
Another slow day. It is nice and cool due to the heavy rain and thunders.

Today we worked on the closing of the program and Evan had to translate and I dictated what he said.
We are starting new projects but we have to wait until next week.

Everybody told me that there are so many Japanese here in Sao Paulo. That is true! So I would be very useful knowing Japanese. But none of them speaks Japanese!!! One missionary couple in our office room, came back after visiting their home (in Brazil) today. They get to go home quite often. They were gone for a week. Lucky!!!

But I don't think I can go home now and then have to come back here after few days later.

Today's lunch was not the best. Fish was sooooo dry and Evan of course loved it. They usually fry fish and they are so good. But today, they cooked with tomatoes, onion and something green.

Today's dessert was sweet bananas. They mash 2 bananas and cook with 20 C of sugar!!! I am not exasulating! Coud be 30 cups of sugar to three bananas!
Even Evan thought it was too sweet, imagine that!!!

Tomorrow is Saturday so I am going to sleep all day. I think I am getting what Evan had plus bad headach.

My Portuguese? No improvement! I just have to accept the fact that I may never learn it. As long as I can say good morning, good afternoon and good night and thank you! and bathroom. That is all I need to know. Right? I can say "Can I pet your dog?"

I miss and love you so much!!!

Dearest family and friends,

It was quite hot all day long But in the afternoon, it got better!!
Spent all afternoon at the office.
What I did today were quite stupid. I felt like gofers.
I stuffed another envelopes, made 640copies of letters they need for tomorrow morning meeting.
I just have to keep telling myself that someone has to do this. And they do need me here to do those!!!
When you don't speak nor read the language, there are not much to do.
But I just have to keep reminding me of what President Costa told me.

Evan is watching succor game and I hate that "Gooooooooooooal!!"

It was a OK day but lunch at the temple was not that great. Chicken were all over cooked and so dry (Breast meat only) so of course Evan was happy.

Evan is feeling much better but now I am getting a bad headach! I hope I will not get what he had. Yes, I am using On Guard!!!!

Nothing exciting today. Slow and quiet!

I really miss you and love you guys!!!

Hiroko

P.S. I am so sorry for so many mis-spelling yesterday. I am embarrased!! I hope you figured it out.
One brotheren is the President Costa and General Authority.
Other couple is the temple president's couple.

This is the picture with me and presodent Costa. Me is such a sweet man and  poured my heart out  aying my language is not coming fast enoght and I don; and sometime I don't knpw why I am here. He ass usure me that it will take for a shile so be payienty and je will put my name in an special general

nest pictures are our temple president and hi wife. She sure reminds me of Sharon, Sweetest sweetest lady.

Dearest family and friends,

It is hot today and humid!!
Looks like another rain is coming!! Great!!!

It was such a busy day. I helped other missionary couple to put documents in the envelopes. I know it sounds stupid. So I have to keep saying, "I am doing this for Heavenly Father and some one has to do it!!" over and over.
There were about 300 of them!

Then I was busy with another project Evan was working on. It was not as easy as stuffing envelopes but I liked it. It is hard for me to get to used to which one is the address and city and so on.
But I really like to keep myself busy.

We had frozen Lazzania tonight and it was good! First time Evan and I agree with. It does not happen often at all.

We are going to visit "the home of Hope"- Japanese nursing home next Friday. They are mentally handicapped people. Our office managers are going to drive us so I am going to use the patch Joey sent me to avoid car sickness. Thank you, Joey. The way everybody drives here, I need to take Dramamin and that special patch.

Today was a great day becouse I got a letter from Barbara and Zoe!!!!

As I mentioned before, the best thing for missionaris are E-mail, packages and letters!!

Thank you Zoe and Barbara. You two made my day!!!

I miss you and love you all.

Dearest family and friends,

It is a hot day!!!!!No cloud on the sky so I guess that means no rain.

Evan is finally feeling better!!!
So we went to the temple for 10:30 session but it was full so we had to wait until 11:30 session.
There were three buses from Rio to attend the temple. It took them 8 hours to toget here.!!! There are so many youth also. So cute!!!
We are so lucky to have a temple so close!!
After the session, we had a quick lunch at the cafeteria then came home.

It is too hot to do anything!!!

two day holiday is over so we are going back to work tomorrow!!!

I am looking forward to it.

I miss and love you so much.

Dearest friends and family

It was a holiday here also so we stayed home all day. Evan is still sick so he did not go anywhere. That is unusual!!

Today I had a most spiritual experience in my life. I went to the Family Home Evening becuase our area president (General Authority) was the guest speaker. He is so wonderful and I went up to him after his talk and poured my heart that it has been so hard to learn language and I wanted him to pray for me. He told me yes and he will put my name in the prayer rolls (just for General Authority)! Can you believe that? He told me to be patient and told me how much the members of our ward (He is in our ward!!!) love me.
I could not stop crying. He told me over and over that there is a reason for me to be here even though I don't feel like that m ost of the time.

I think the best part of mission is that we get close to General Authorities. We are going to have two more GA within this year!!!!!

It has been so hot because it did not rain!

I hope you all had a great time with Jonathan!!! Let me know if he arrived ok.

I miss and love you!!!

!!!

Dearest frined and family,

Today  it started out so beuatiful and hot!!!
Our usual translator for RS was not there. I am glad that at least I copyed the lesson. We don't even have a lesson book in English.

One of the councelor took us home on his car! Thank good ness.

Evan left around 4:00 to go out with missionary and he was so excited. Then it started raining and thunder. I am still scare of lightning and thunder. They are so loud. Really really loud!!!!

Had peanutbutter sandwich tonight. I don't like Sunday becuase we can go out to eat or buy something. I used to Mac Donald to get Cereal but with the name tag representing the Church, we cannot.

Thanks to the rain, it is getting cooler. But I still have to use fan.

No idear what we are going to do tomorrow. We probably go to Family Homeevening because our Area 70, Brother Costa will be talking.

So did it snow a little? I sure hope so!!!

Today marks the two months in Brazil! yet no clue what they are saying.
I miss and love you!!!

Evan just came home and is eating Graviola ice creatm. Evan insisted that I take a bite but I did not like it. It smells like some perfume. I hate it when he insist me tasting what he is eating because 99% of time, I do not like it.

Dearest family and friends,

It has been 2 months since we got here and No, I still do not speak Portugues at all. I have been on mission for 2-1/2 months.
I am trying to memorize at least three new words a day.

Today, we are not feeling so good so we did absolutely NOTHING. I already finished one book I bought yesterday which was not that great book. Japanese books are so expensive!!! So as soon as I finish reading, I give them to the Japanese lady at our ward.
Can you believe that she was born and raised in the same area as I did. She has three little kids and they are so cute. I think they speak, Portugues, English and Japanese. Her husband if Brazilian but studyed in Hawaii, where they met.
She has been here for 9 months and she still cant talk Portuguese. Another missionary sister has been here for 9 months also and Evan said he could hardly understand her.

Tim, how long did it take for you to start speaking freely?
Monday and Tuesday are holiday here.Carnibal!! No we are not going to Rio!!Believe it or not, I rather go to the office. I hope my flowers will not die without water!!!

I trim dead flowers and leaves everyday as Barbara taught me to do so!! Thank you Barbara!!!

I miss and love you so much!!

Dearesr framily and friends,

It was a very hot day!!!!

We took Thunder mountain bus to the train station(Metro) then went to Reberdarge.
We had our favorite lunch and this time we both agreed that they were good. Then I stop by at the book store and got some books. Sooooo expensive. Then stopped at the grocery shop and got few things. Then took Metro again and visited Japanese organization. Finally I was useful!!!They have about 80 people who are mentally slow. at first I could not understand why they need play ground since they are much older. And he said "They are old but mentally they are not." So they need food, and playground items such as swings, slides...so on. They are from 25 to 79 years old. But they need a place and equipments to play. I hope we can help.

I was so hot and had a horrible headache so I came back home then Evan went to the office even though he is getting cold and soar throat.

I have do the wash and clean the house.

I wish we have vacume cleaner!! But we don't.

Monday and Tuesday are off due to the parade or something. No idea what we are going to do.

I hope both of us are not going to get sick!!

I miss and love you tons.

Hiroko

Dearesr famiily and friends,

Today's lunch, Evan got the bananapudding. Just like banana jam. It was soooo sweet! They probably put 10 cups of sugar for 3 bananas. It was even too sweet for Evan.

It was a busy day in the afternoon and I love that. I sent out all the letters to the different facility and make sure that their E-mail is correct. But seems like more than half of the listed E-mail were wrong!.

Tomorrow we are going to visit Japanese facility. we think it is for old folks but I am not sure.
It will be fun.

We might go to Out Back on Saturday and Zoo on Monday. Monday and Tuesday are holiday here! Carnival or something like that. So we are going to the temple on Tuesday instead of Saturday.

It is so funny that when Evan is using computer, I watch Japanese
TV and as soon as I start using computer, Evan watches Soccor. That is NOT my favorite thing to watch. They are just like acting. When they get penalty ticket (Yellow ticket?), they act like "What???? What did I do??? I have noooooo idea".

Well, I cannot wait to let you know about tomorrow.

I miss and love you tons.

Hiroko
Evan: Yesterday, Wednesday, We finally sent off an email to one of the 8,500 potential resource clinics/hospitals/humanitarian homes/professionals for bishops to use in Brazil for mental/emotional problem members. It was a great day because it now means that there is at least a light at the end of the tunnel re actually obtaining some needed resource info.
It has taken almost a week to figure out how best to provide the help that Ivan (Director for Family Services throughout Brazil) requested. Now we won't have to phone all the 8500 listed organizations that we were asked to do. It would've been a year long project at least for 2 people working all the time on it, but of course our main job is to provide humanitarian help to the poor/disadvantaged etc. and that takes up most of our time. So we were just helping Ivan out whenever we had some spare time, and of course Hiroko did most of the work on Ivan's project. We aren't the only ones doing the phone calls.
Today (thursday 2/16/12)We sent off about 50 or 60 more email requests for info that the bishops can use. We are finding that about 1/3 of all email addresses are out of date. But we're making progress! Only about 8200 more to go.
My favorite potato chips so far. Hey, with a name like "Krosty", who can resist!!!
Best news is that Finally Hiroko was able to speak Japanese to Senhor Chida at an old folks home and we're meeting with him tomorrow at 1pm--our very first visit to an old folks home by ourselves. We'll see how we can help them, and THIS time Hiroko can do all the talking.

Dearest family and friends,

This afternoon was good. We made new system and I can work on it by myself. I can't wait to go to the office tomorrow.
It makes such a huge difference when you have something to do, it really makes people happy!!

One sister missionary made Raspberry jam and one baked wheat bread. So we had a great dinner. They were good!! But not as good as Joey's bread!!

We saw Prerie dog on TV today, She looked just like Peanut and she was eating dogs food and dog had to move away. It was so cute.

I miss and love you!!!

Dearest family and friends,

It was so beautiful around noon so we left without umbrella. Big mistake!!
Around 5:00, the sky got so dark and the heavy rain came down!

It was a busy afternoon but I kept making mistakes and it is discurraging!!!
I miss and love you!!!

Hiroko
Dearest family and friends,

Happy Valentine's Day. I guess no one celebrate it here. Appearently there is another Valentine's day in July. Boys and girls celebrate that day.

We had lunch at the temple. It was chicken day and was as dry as ever. Of course Evan loved it. Driest chicken breast. But pineapple was so sweet and delicious. And we love their bread. We buy two every time and make sandwiches for the dinner. We have good fruites but we don't know which one is ripe or not. We have one Mango cut in a half and waiting for it to ripe but I don´t think it will ripe once you cut it.

Today is hot but we have nice breeze. Evan kept saying the clouds remind him of Vietnum. I don't know it is good or not. But we really lucked out with the weather.

One missionary couple brought us chewy candies. and they were good. I like anything chewy.  Like Salt water taffy.

At the temple ground, they cut Ageria really short therefore, there is not one flower left. I really miss smelling that.I didn't know that they are not good for animals.

That is all for today and I miss and love you so much.

It was so good to talk to the Edgren's last night.
Tim, I love the video of your turtles. I did not know that I miss them so much too!!
They look so hungry! You can feed them more.I used to feed them at least twice a day when you guys are not looking!

Well, I'd better start helping Evan.

I miss and love you so much!

Hiroko

Monday, February 13, 2012

Dearest family and friends,

Happy Valentine's day to you all from Brazil!

No one is talking about Valentine's Day here but we bought several box of chocolates for the office people. Brazilians love chocolate. They even come to our office and ask"Hey, do you guys have chocolate?"

We see so many cute kids here. Brazilian kids are incredably cute and beautiful. They have cxurly hair and absolutely gorgeous!!! But what happens when they get older. Cicilia and Hadreana are exceptions!!!

Today was nice and cool so I loved it. You never know what kind of day we will have. One thing for sure is that we always carry two unbrellas wherever we go. My umbrella is long and it is also my cane.
I twisted my ankle again today. I am trying to look down the street carefully but there are too many holes on the streets.

I got bottles of Serenity from Wendy today. I just run out my last bottle last night so I was so happy.

I have about 5-6 mosquito bites. I hope it is mosquito bites and not some kind of bugs.

Evan found the ugliest warm today and of course he took a picture of it. It was long , big and so ugly. Honeslty the ugliest I had ever seen.

We went to Walmart and Evan knew exactly where candies were. No I did not find fruite rolls!!!

My nails are really short now. I like it because it is so much easier to use key board. But I don't think there is nail salon anywhere here. They also said. they don't do permanent on hair. I need it so badly.
Maybe I will have long straight and grey hair by the time I come home!! Yack!!!

Right now The Temple looks so beautiful. Yes, this is the number one I like about Brazil.

You know how Dad likes to collect plastic bottles? It is getting out of hand now. We order water just to get the bottles. We even keep Zip lock bags. They are so expensive. So we keep any plastic bags!!! I hope he would not do that once we get home.

My tooth past was getting low. So I cut the tube in half and use it until every drop is gone. Because I have not seen the kind I use. Sensodyne-pro-namel.

We have been in Brazil almost two months by tomorrow. Feels like I have been here already for two years. I tried to study Portugues with Evan at night. But not helping. It is so hard!!

I miss you guys and I love you!!!

Have a Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Much Love,

Hiroko

Dearest family and friends,

As soon as we got back from the church, it has been raining pretty hard.
It is so much cooler when it rains.
Street looks like a small river!! Not a person nor car are outside.

Doday's bus driver was somethingelse.
He egnored red lights twice. When he got close to the bus stop, instead of slowing down, he shifted his gear to 5th gear and stops so quickly.
Good thing I was sitting. Bus drivers here are something elese.

For the desert today, we ate See's candy which Joey sent us. Yes, I did share with Evan.

I saw Sugar glider on the TV today and they said sugar glider needs a big space to fly back and forth.
Since she does not smell any more, maybe you should move her to Peanuts cage.Right now the street looks like river running so fast! I have never seen so much water!! Glad that we don't have to go out!

Well, that is all for today. Evan is enjoying watching Succor game.

My Portuguese are not getting any better. I have been here almost for two months!!!!

I miss and love you so much!!

Hiroko

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Evan: Yesterday I visited a clinic for dependent women about an hour away from our office in São Paulo. The Director (he's over this kind of welfare support for members throughout Brazil) had invited me and another welfare worker to accompany him on his long trip. He’s a psychologist and travels throughout the country checking clinics, hospitals, psychiatric doctors and consultants to ensure that they are a good enough resource for bishops to use if needed.
It was a great trip--He’s a professional and I learned a lot. Also the other welfare worker is a really fun guy. The three of us laughed together a lot. We ate a late lunch at a great little restaurant and I had one of the best chicken breast meals of my life! It was stuffed with a mild cheese, tied together with toothpicks, given an outside crust of breaded something and deep fat fried (yes I know that if you deep fat fry anything it’s going to be great) And for dessert we all had candy bars. I know I only have another 15 months to try them all (like I did in the US when I was young) but I WILL try!
We all 3 love chocolate and I found the Brazilian equivalent to snickers!!! Of course they have a lot of other kinds of candy bars that are really good too.
Also, since the other 2 only spoke Portuguese I really learned a lot of Portuguese at the same time. Mom had to stay home because her right leg hurt (yes, the same one that the stroke hurt) and she instead watched TV at home with her leg elevated. It helped her a lot, besides the director drove like he was on a roller coaster, just like everybody else here in São Paulo and mom would’ve gotten really sick for sure.
Well, so far this year Brazil has 9 welfare projects going on throughout the country that we are all involved in. Two involve wheelchair donations (132 wheelchairs), a food project for 2 stakes to help grow family food gardens and raise chickens and eggs, a water project way out in the arid northeast to drill a well for people in a small village, a children's playground for needy kids and orphans, and donations of equipment and supplies for several small undersupplied clinics and hospitals. Since our department oversees the whole of Brazil it's unrealistic for anyone in our department to visit any of them, except for the ones close by.
I still love it here--every minute of every day and I think I’m even liking it better! I’m enjoying the big city life I guess and the freedom that we senior missionaries have. Plus now that 2 months have almost gone by I’ve been able to eat and enjoy a lot more things.
Thanks so much for all the emails, facetime visits, Ichats, Skype visits, videos, etc. We love them so much.
Here’s a few of our recent photos:
Rush hour--buses have their own lanes and get around the traffic pretty efficiently.
This is the street right in front of the temple. No old busses!

My desk (and yes I cinched the tie all the way to the top just for the picture)

The REAL Moee, right Jonathan?

All the avocados are this big, but they are a little sweet and not as much flavor, but I like them.

avocado

My favorite summer shirt--really light and thin. I'm allowed to wear this outside as long as I wear my name tag.
Let me rephrase that: I CHOOSE to wear this outside and I think I'm supposed to wear my name tag, which I of course do.

Like the name on this box of zip lock bags?

Look, she's smiling!

Which one would you rather be: 1-- the guy that falls or
2--the guy that gets gets hit by both the ladder and the man who falls?
The ladder is not leaning against the building. It's leaning against the man on the ground and a few thin telephone wires about a foot below the top of the ladder. I guess the guy on top won the coin flip because he's got the only hard hat.

Yes I'm old enough to not care what I look like when it gets really hot.
(Good thing I brought Taylor's hat to Brazil)

On the way to work with the other 2 couple missionaries. Lots of wild parrots, birds, dogs, banana and guava trees and flowers.

I really like this tapioca-style dessert. It's a fruit called jogú, gojú, jejú, gujó, jugó or something like that. I’m afraid to ask again because I’ve asked so many times already!

Fried mandioca in the center, a square meat pastry, feijoada (black beans over rice with meat, which I'm kinda addicted to), deep fried cheese-stuffed puff pastry, and other stuff. I really like it all.

Fried banana--really good, even mom likes them. Hard crispy outer shell, really flavorful banana inside.
I like all the food here! Well at least all the food I've decided to eat, because there's still some things I haven't decided to eat yet--just give me time.

She's still smiling!

Dearest family and friends,

Wendy, thank you for sending tons of great Video! Brandon is really good!! So good to see Duke also.
Thank you!!!

We had lunch at the temple then went to 12:00 session. It was packed!!!!
Hardest thing going to the temple here is try to remember the new name. I had never heard any of them.

Then we came home and started raining!!! Wonderful. It really cools down fast.

Tim, I miss having Pizza guys!!  real pizza!!!

We are just going to do wash clothes and clean up little and that is it for today.

I miss and love you so much!!!

Hiroko

Dearest family and friends,

I mentioned to you that we were getting Pizza from our Young Women tonight.
For some reason I thought we are getting Pizza hat or something like that. Because we paid $18.00.
But it was home made Pizza. It was cold so we had to micro-wave them. We don't know how to use oven and have to have matches to light but we don't have it. We were supposed to get it at 6:30 but we did not get it until 8:00PM. Good thing I already ate!!! Evan just had a huge sandwiche when they delivered.

I was so disappointed!!! I really was expecting Pizza Guy Pizza!!!
Nothing like that. I did not like it but of course Evan liked it. It has shredded chicken and cheese.
For some reasons I do not like chicken here. It really taste different.

Evan and other brothers went to the hospital this afternoon which is for the addicted patients. Evan said good thing I did not go because they drove 4 hours all together in the winding area. He said he kept saying "I am so glad that she did not go!"Also patients were drug addicts and it was depressing, he said. I was so glad to see him back.

at 5:00 it started raining so hard and we were waiting for rain to stop at the front door of the office. Then one of the brothern took us home!!! Lucky!!! He was from Urguay so you can see how happy Evan was!!!
We really lucked out!! Becuse we only had one small umbrella!

I think we are going to the temple tomorrow.

I miss and love you!!!

Dearesr family and friends,

How are you guys doing?
Today is not a so hot day and I am so happy!

Evan was supposed to call me when he was ready to visit the hospital but he called me and he was already late. So I could not go with them.

I went to the temple to have lunch. It was my first time to go to the office by myself.
It is so complicated to use elevator so I pushed T floor then I am supposed to walk to other building they all look like so who knows!) but I had no clue.  So I walked the street and had to cross the street. I did not want to do it but since it was noon time, there were no traffic. So I was able to cross the street with no problem. Isn't that sad that I still cannot find the way to the office!!!

I had lunch at the temple and hate to say this but I am getting tired of lunch at the temple!! I love their fried fish but it was the third day this week with same fish menue. Yes, I am getting tired of it.

Evan walked yesterday then came home with a chocolate ecclare pastry (??). Even he said "It is too sweet for me!" Of course I did not even try it. Everything is so sweet or too salty and Evan loves that. When we bought dry soybeans for snack, we had to use towl to remove salt. They were so solty!!!

We bought Pizza from Youngwomen last /Sunday and they are delivering this evening. Our first Pizza!!! I hope they are good!! About $18.00.

I miss low fat small curd cottage cheese!! We only have large curd and not good at all. I just ate my last fruite rolls!!Sad.......

So Evan left for the Hospital and I am just doing Rileaf Society lesson, just reading. We have a translator for that class.Since no one is here, I turned air conditioner to the lowest. Normally there are three old men (including Evan) and saying it is way too cold. So I am taking advantage of today. One man used to be the first Stake President and drinks mixture of fruite and carrots. He is 88(?) and still working. He is the one when Evan told him that he met his first councelor at the park. Then he said...Well...He is dead!. Actually Evan met his Secretary. His wife plays piano for RS but not that good. But she is a sweetest lady. Speaks no English. She puts red brush on her cheeks, I mean really RED!!! She trys to joke with me saying "To do bonbon" instead of "To do beim". She knows I don't speak but she kept saying same jokes every Sunday. Not so funny but So cute!!

Looks like it is going to rain but I sure don´t mind it.

My sister Nobuko in Germany reads my blog using Google translate. When I wrote I really miss Punkin (my dog), it translated "I really want Pumpkin!" Isn' that funny?

Well that is all for today.

Please pray for snow in Tahoe. They have no snow and they sure need it!!!

I love you and miss you!!!

Dearest friends and family

I have been so sad but this afternoon I had one happy moment.
Evan went for  walk and came back right away and told me to go down.
Because the cutest dog is outside. So I run to outside and was able to pet him for about 10 minutes. He is Shittu and so cute!!! I miss animals!!  I wish I could have one here. His name is Barron and the owner is a member.

I am still so sad but as Evan kept saying that she is very happy now so that makes me feel little better!

I love and miss you!!!
Amy, hang in there!!!

Hiroko

Dearest Friends and family,

I was so sad and could not sleep last night at all. This is my first time loosing my favorite animal dying. You think I am exadurating but I really  really loved her. I have been crying everytime I think about her.
I don't feel like doing anything. I keep looking at her pictures and video. She sure was a special girl!! By the way she is not feret, she is Perry dog. She was 9 year old.

It has been so hot but now I can see raining out side!!! Great!!! I need to cool down.

I told Evan that if something happens to Punkin, I am going home!! Well, I can´t think about that now!

I still can´t to think what I should write. It really is affecting me. I don´t want to see Duke go either but he is getting so old and I do worry about him so much. That would be horrible to loose him.

Well, I'd better go back to work!!

Miss and love you so much!!!

Dearesr family and friends,

Today is one of the saddest day and I have been crying all night.
Joey and Amy's pet, Ferret, died today. They had for 9 years and she was the most lovable and sweet animal. She loves people and loves to be petted.
She was a very special animal to me too! I bsolutely loved her!!! When I pett her tummy, she closes her eyes and look so happy.
I worry about Joey and Amy.

I can't think of anything to write b ecause I am too sad. i even went to the temple to put her name on the prayer list. Maybe that is why she did not have pain and passed away peacefully.

Another hot hot day!!!

Miss and love you!!!!

Derest family and friends,

Another hot hot day. It is over 90!!!

But they do have air conditioner at the temple and office. Thank goodness!!!

I found another Geranium!!! I guess this hot weather is helping them producing more flower.

We had a noisiest thunder and it scared me. And little rain.
We need more rain to cool down.

I saw a dog just like Mochi and he looked sooooo hot. Then I saw Duke also. So I guess I should say it was a great day.

It was busy at the office but it is so hard to do what I do because it is
portuguese!!
And I don't know how to use my computer well. It takes for ever to do what I have to do. I have to looke up the information for the hospitals and make sure that all the infor are correct.
Yes, it is boring job but better than nothing!!!

Sunset from the window is so beautiful right now but that means another hot day tomorrow!!!

I have been going just afternoon to the office until my ankle and knee are completely better.

I miss snow!! I miss cold wind!!!
I miss you all and I love you tons!!!!

Dearest family and friends,

Yes, another hot hot day!!
I sprayed water all over on my body and stood in front of fan.
I miss air conditioner!!!

Had lunch at shopping mall and had a same thing. Some sushi (Brasilian style) and chenese food. Gyoza was pretty good.
Then I came home because my ankle and now knee are hurting!!!
Fun to be old!!!

Tomorrow I have nothing to do until in the afternoon so I will meet with Evan at the
Temple for lunch. I will be busy in the afternoon but it is so hard because all the writing is in Portuguese! Naturally!

I cleaned the apartment and I got so hot!!! We have no vacume so I had to sweep the floor with broom.
Life here is quite different!!
No I am not used to it yet.

Rice cooker is wonderful!! Thank you guys!! I only cook one cup and will last for few days!!

Well that is all for today.

I miss and love you so much!!!

Dearest family and friends,

YES! I DID it. I bore testmony in Portuguese!!! I really am trying to be a part of them!!!. Evan said I did a good job and everybody told me that they understood what I read. But.... who would say "No I did not understand!"
But thought counts right? I was quite proud of me!!!!Evan had to give an opening prayer. I have no idea what he said but sounded very good!!!

We are still excited about yesterday sealing!  It was so special to see the result of what Tim had worked so hard.

I took a long nap after the church. But I am getting ready for bed pretty soon 8:30! Hate to think about getting up at 7:00am tomorrow morning!!!

Quiet Sunday evening but It is so hot!!! And remember we have NO air conditioner. Only fans.
Joey, it is so hot!! I am dying. It is probably over 90F still. Being positive cannot help being so hot!!!

It was so good to talk to Wendy, Ty, Moe and Lily!!!
I guess the Edgren and the Cheney's were not home.

Thanks for so many great pictures of kids!!!

Looks like you guys had so much fun!!!

Well, that is all for today!! I am going to have Miso soup now.

I miss and love you so much!!!

A great day for us and Paty and Daniel. They were so happy, and yes mom and everybody cried.
Daniel and Paty's sealing.  Paty said to be sure to tell Tim that he's responsible for their sealing.

Mom and Elisete, Paty's mom (Tim baptized her)

Camila (Paty's sister), Elisete, Mom

Dearest friends and family,

What a day it was!!! First of all, It was sooo hot!! 30 Cdegree!!
And we had lunch at the temple then met with Patty and her husband. We went to 3:30 session together then they were sealed this afternoon.
I was so touched!! They look so happy and she thanked us for raising such fine missionary, Tim!!!

I kept thinking about you at the temple, Tim. For sealing she asked me to be her mother's place and I just lost it. I cried most of the time. I told Patty how much Tim wanted to be here. (in Portugues!! Thanks to Google translation)

Patty was so beautiful and her husband was so happy. Evan took 1,000 pictures so he will send them to you when he is ready.
Our toilet is clogged so he is trying to fix it. Yak!! He just told me that it works now!!! Great!!!

It is 9:00pm but still so hot. I guess we have been too lucky!!

Tim, I wish you were there. What a special day it was. Thanks Tim.

I think I am going to bed pretty soon. I was going to clean the apartment but that can wait, right?

It is sooooo hot!!! I am dying!!!!! Being in the Temple was so nice becuse of air conditioner!!!

I might even go to the office tomorrow after church if it gets too hot.

I miss you guys and love you tons and tons.

Dearest family and friends,

It was soooooooo HOOOOOT today. Yes, summer has come. Yak! I turned air conditioner in the office waaaaay down.

Went to the temple for lunch and on the way back to the office, I checked every gardinia tree. And I was over joyed when I saw something white on a leave! But it was a dropping from a bird!!! No gardinia today. They are all gone and picked by the old Japanese lady!!

I was finally busy this afternoon and really like that. The hardest thing is nothing to do. Our boss told us that one of the missionary sister was upset that she did not have anything to do. And he said, "I am so glad that you are so possitive!" Did you hear that , Joey???

Tomorrow, Patty and her husband are going to the temple then sealed. We are so excited to go!!!!

Since we are back home, I am hoping it will rain to cool down now. Remember we have no air conditioner at our apartment!!! Can you believe that? Joey, you would die in here!!!

Well that is all for today.

My ankle is getting little better, but we were joking that I should use a wheel chair which is in our office. But the streets are so rough that I will be car sick!!!

I really miss you guys and it is not getting any better yet.
I love you so much!!!!

Hiroko

Evan's turn:
Please do not send us anything anymore--we're spending way too much on postage for packages to be sent here. As I understand it we've spent approximately $150 already!  So please do not send anything, not even pictures.  I can print them from the internet, of course.

When I heard that a missionary couple we had just met were going home today I felt so sorry for them.  Another missionary couple who had been mission presidents in Brazil a few years ago said the same thing--it is so nice to be able to stay here!

And yes, mom is right--it's hard to make her smile even when we take pictures of ourselves. But a sister missionary convinced her to smile and the pictures turned out really nice.  See for yourselves:

A "Beirut" sandwich--really delicous! And this is just a half.  I gave the other half to Daniel, Paty's husband.

mom's desk

Hiroko's favorite cracker.   She likes them so much she eats them every night for her main course. She puts a special creamy cheese sauce on them and then tops it with the best raisens we both have ever eaten.

treasures from Christy

Dearest friends and family,

It was a happy happy day because we got the package from Christy. You did it right for declaration and we did not have to pay anything. It was almost like little Japan was squeezed into that box.
We missionaries live for letters and package. In 5 minutes everybody in the office knew we got the package.
Pictures were great!!!!

It is difficult to print pictures so I really appreciate it if you send me pictures!

Anyway it was such a great day!!! I was soooo happy.

If anybody planning to send us anything, IF I mean, please send us rice crackers. Everybody loves them but they are like$6-7 for small bag.

Evan took some picture of me today and he always told me to smile. He said I don´t smile anymore.

During the lunch, there was a couple next to us and they were talking about going home this afternoon! Yes, I was jealous!!!They are going to be with their family in several hours!! They don´t seem to be sad leaving as everybody told me. Everybody said"Oh, you will be so sad leaving Brazil!"
Actually they look so happy. They served 2 year mission, maybe that is why. She said she never learn to speak Portugues.

I want to share the scripture today. This was truely HF talking to me: D &C 64:29.

I just want to be soooo busy. But I have to keep looking for things to do everyday.

I really miss you and love you tons.

Hiroko

Dearest family and friends,

Another quiet day. We have been working hard to find the nursing homes or orphanage for Japanese but no luck!!! First of all no one speaks Japanese and either they are all closed or....what????
We only found one and now we have to contact Stake President for that area.
I don´t know why it is so hard. Everytime we get information, it is dead end.
I had only spoken to one Japanese, that is it! No one speaks Japanese here!!

Went to the temple for lunch and I was happy. No more hot dogs!!!
I took two more flowers and I only saw two more left! There are so many beautiful flowers but none of them smell good.

Could you please call Janis and ask if  jlynnkozak is the right E-mail address ? They keep coming back.Tonight I might go to the Portuguese class but I am not sure. Evan told me he had hard time understanding her Portugues so I don´t know if that is a good idea!

Hei! I told everyboday at the lunch time and I told them "I am 65 years old" in Portugues and they all understood!!

That is all for today!! What a exciting day, ha?

I miss and love you!!

Hiroko
